Johannesburg's Soccer CIty Stadium(also known as the First National Bank stadium) will hold the opening ceremony for the 2010 world cup, and host the 2010 world cup final.

The extensive renovations which began in 2007 are now complete.The stadium which originally opened in 1989 will be the third largest in Africa. The new design is based on traditional African pottery.The upper tier has now been extended ,and 99 new Executive suites have been added. Brand new changing rooms,floodlights and a state of the art circular roof complete the upgrade.

The revamp has now brought the stadiums capacity to 94,700 from the original 70,000.

Soccer city

South Africa's most popular team The Kaiser Chiefs play their home matches at Soccer City.

The stadium stages all the major soccer events in South Africa.In 1994 Orlando pirates supporters started a fire at the stadium after they were defeated by Kaiser Chiefs in a league match.

South Africa hosted the African nations cup in1996,and the Bafana Bafana were victorious for the first time ever , when they overcame Tunisia 2-0 at the soccer City Stadium.

Bafana Bafana is the nickname for the South African football team and it translates to the boys the boys. They Will play the opening game in the Soccer City Stadium on the11th of June 2010
